The problem is probabily related to a missing driver for the LSI Logic controller

In order to permit the Firewall to complete the boot process, you need to edit manually the .vmx file of your virtual machine , reconfiguring the hard disk from SCSI to IDE.

Find the configuration of the scsi hard disk and controller

scsi0.present = “TRUE”
scsi0.sharedBus = “none”
scsi0.virtualDev = “lsilogic”
scsi0:0.present = “TRUE”
scsi0:0.fileName = “Endian Firewall.vmdk”
scsi0:0.deviceType = “scsi-hardDisk”

Comment it out :

#scsi0.sharedBus = “none”
#scsi0.virtualDev = “lsilogic”
#scsi0:0.present = “TRUE”
#scsi0:0.fileName = “Endian Firewall.vmdk”
#scsi0:0.deviceType = “scsi-hardDisk”

Create a new HardDisk in IDE mode that point on the original vmdk files :

ide0:0.present = “TRUE”
ide0:0.fileName = “Endian Firewall.vmdk”

Thats all.

The latter three aren’t installed by default, but they can be used to upgrade from the still included older versions of these packages.

Other upgrades include newer version of the wireless drivers suite, including newer versions of the ath9k driver and the iwlwifi drivers. The GNU Debugger gdb, Valgrind and SystemTap also have been updated.

                          

Arrivano i 3 bellissimi PC (come da prassi ormai i CD sono  un costo e quindi non vi è traccia di CD con il S.O. e i Driver) che sono dotati di un manuale di ben una pagina dove si spiega come fare per il downgrade a Win XP o il ripristino di windows 7 e null’altro.

Mi leggo il manuale e inizio l’avventura…

Installo Win7 come da procedura quindi con Alt-F10 parto a fare il downgrade… tutto sembra procedere bene… ma dopo circa mezz’oretta ecco che parte Win7 e non windows XP.

Non mi perdo d’animo e convinto di aver sbagliato qualcosa rifaccio la procedura, come non detto non và. Ripeto la stessa cosa anche sul secondo nella speranza che sia un baco di quello presso in considerazione ma niente.

Chiamo quindi ACER che mi dice che è un problema risaputo (ma se è risaputo perchè non lo risolvete?) e quindi che mi mandano i CD di ripristino di Win XP.

Dopo ben 3 settimane di attesa e una decina di telefonate a ACER ecco arrivare 3 bellissimi CD.

Tutto contento parto con il primo CD (Formatter) e quindi il CD 1 e CD2.

Tutto anche qui sembra procedere bene… ma al riavvio rimane il cursore lampeggiante. Penso sia un problema di file corrotti e così tento con un CD XP professional il ripristino del S.O. ma nulla da fare.

Chiamo quindi ACER per l’ennesima volta che mi dice che  anche in questo caso è NORMALE, il problema è legato al BIOS (ora non potevano dirmelo prima??).

Morale della favola, devo mandare il PC ad ACER per la riparazione, dopo 3 settimane non ho ancora a disposizione i PC.

Ad oggi 12 Maggio non ho ancora ricevuto i PC.

Modify the bacula startup script(/etc/init.d/bacula) , adding this line at the top (so the bacula init script is chkconfig compatible) :
# chkconfig: - 87 26

NOTE : The script modified need to be something like this

-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 9102 -j ACCEPT
Restart the firewall
service iptables restart

CONFIGURE BACULA
Go to /usr/share/bacula/etc and edit (vi) bacula-fd.conf
Find the first entry Director and then, after the Name directive, put an Address directive with the IP of the bacula server or with the fqdn of bacula server
Address = XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
or
Address = fully.qualified.domain.name

Comment out the second Director entry, leave the FileDaemon unchanged

Modify the Messages section to point to the bacula server.

CONFIGURE THE BACULA SERVER WITH bacula-dir.conf

Now, we need to check in the bacula server the definition of the Storage Device.
Look at the Address directive … change it from localhost to the ip address of the NIC (or the fqdn of the server)

ADDING A CLIENT ON THE BACULA SERVER

Restart the bacula both on Server and Client machine
service bacula restart

Via WebMin, add a new backup client, please make sure to use the password in the bacula-fd.conf file of the client.

                          

1) – Create a Virtual Machine as Red Hat Linux 5
2) – Remove the Default Ethernet Adapter
3) – Add a new adapter as VMXNET3 (feel free to use a dedicated adapter for the LAN Backup function and an other one for the remote connectivity to the Virtual Machine)

Note : You may prefer to create a Virtual Machine with 2 ethernet adapter : The first one for the Remote Access (aka SSH) and the other one on a dedicate VLAN for the LAN BACKUP FUNCTION.

Create the BASE SYSTEM

Install Centos 5.4. During the installation, please DESELECT :
– Desktop : gnome
Flag the checkbox to “customize now” , and then select Under DEVELOPMENT :
– Development Library
– Development Tool
– Legacy Software Develpment
Select Under BASE SYSTEM
– Legacy Software Support

INSTALL AND CONFIGURE VMWARE TOOL
– Start the VMWare Tool Install
– Mount the Virtual CDROM
– Copy the .tar.gz file in /tmp
– Umount the CDROM
– Extract the tarball (tar -zxf) and execute it (./vmware-install.pl)

At the end of the installation, run the following command :
kudzu
service network restart


– Adjust the network ettings using /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 as you prefer

INSTALL THE DATABASE SERVER
To install the database , you need to :
yum install mysql-server
yum install mysql-devel.i386

NOTE : You can install mysql during the installation of the OS, in this case simply install mysql-devel.i386

Run setup script :
./setup.sh

NOTE : The default settings must be fine, simply specify you login password.

CONFIGURE THE FIREWALL

Login to your WebMin Server , and fill the search box with the word “bacula”
Click the first result, and change go to change the module config.
- Change Database type to MySql
- Change config dir to /usr/share/bacula/etc

Congratulation …. you have succesfully installed bacula with mysql support and WebMin access

                          

You need to do this :

Try to boot with a Windows CD and go to the Recovery Console. If you don’t have a Windows CD you are able to load your hard drive as an external disk of another PC.

Replace the damage file with a copy from %SystemRoot%\repair

The “K-lite codec pack full” will allow you to play any video available.

                          

During the test of the software, i’ve noticed that sometimes it stop running correctly, and I obtain an empty page for the network status. After the restart of the local tor process, the Status page return to be populated.

So , i’ve made a little trick to obtain the local tor process restart automatically (note that this process is not the tor server).

Here you are how to proced :

First : Write the tor.pid file
At this time we need that tor write the Pid file, used for killing the process. The default installation of tor does not provide any tor.pid configuration.
Open the torrc file and add the following line :
PidFile /var/run/tor.pid

Second : Write the restart_tor.sh script
At this time, we make the restart_tor script, that is used to kill the tor process and start a new one.
Using vi, create the file as above :
torpid=`cat /var/run/tor.pid`
kill $torpid
/usr/local/bin/tor

NOTE : Please pay attention to the ` character that is not the ‘

Third : Schedule the script
Using the crontab , schedule an hourly execution of the restart_tor script

Thats all.
